Sea Kayaking Courses

All of our tours involve basic instruction on paddling, packing and maneouvering kayaks, but the instruction is not intended for a new paddler who wants to go out on their own. Our instructional courses take care of that aspect. A big part of being a paddler is knowing how to deal with safety considerations. A guide takes care of that on a guided trip, but you are on your own when without a guide. We have several levels of instruction.

The Basic Sea Kayaker

This course covers all the basic information and techniques for going out without a guide on protected waters in calm seas. You'll get:

Basic paddling strokes and practice
Rescues-how to get yourself and others out of the water
Tide Basics-what to consider and how it affects you
Weather Basics-what to consider and when to get off the water
Touring considerations-day trips and expeditions

The Intermediate Paddler

This course covers more advanced techniques for going out without a guide on protected waters in slightly more advanced seas. You'll get:

Advanced paddling strokes and practice
Rescues-concentration on self-rescues
Navigation Basics-how to get around
Weather and tides-paddling in wind and current

The Touring Paddler

This course covers all the basic information and techniques for going out on a multi-day trip. This is for paddlers with some experience paddling day trips. You'll get:

How to Start-the planning phase
Getting there and ready-packing your boat and troubleshooting
Travel considerations-when to paddle and when not
Finding your way-more navigation
Campcraft-how, where, and when to camp
Finishing-how to clean up after
