Juan de Fuca Trail
Mini West Coast Trail

5 days-Moderately Strenuous

Itinerary

Day 1- Travel Day: Participants meet guides at a specified location in Victoria (point of origin). Following introductions and equipment check the group are transported to the Eastern Trail Head at China Beach. Boots and Packs on and the hike begins: Through the muddy second growth forest, across the suspension bridge and on to Mystic Beach for the first section and the first potential campsite (2 km). Depending upon time and tidal heights the group may push on across several creeks and a tidal dependent section to Bear beach our first campsite (10 km)

Day 2- The most strenuous section of the hike between Bear Beach and Chin beach will be hiked on this day. The challenges include mud, elevation changes up and down creek gullies before making camp at Chin.

Day 3- From Chin the trail heads back into the forest with more elevation gain and numerous creek crossings before one of the trip highlights, the suspension bridge over Loss Creek overlooking the waterfall. The trail continues on through the forest and then over a few tidal obstacles before reaching Sombrio beach. This beautiful campsite area is also a popular day use area and can be an entry or exit point from the trail if necessary.

Day 4- The hike continues as a shoreline hike to Minute Creek, past Kuitshe Cove and onto Parkinson Creek. The old growth forest brings a new feeling to the hike. The campsite at Payzant Creek is the most likely choice for our last night.

Day 5- Travel Day: The group make their way to Botanical Beach and Trail end. It is worth spending some time here exploring the amazing tidal pools and sculpted sandstone shelves. It is just a short distance into Port Renfrew where the group will be met by a bus to transport them back to Victoria.
